Emergency Response

Founding and Humanitarian Commitment:   The WARSAN Relief Organisation (WRO) was founded in 2017 out of a strong dedication to humanitarian concerns. The ongoing drought catastrophe in Somaliland, where thousands of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities faced the terrible loss of livestock and livelihoods in rural areas, catalyzed our early humanitarian activity. As a result, WARSAN moved quickly to start giving individuals who were severely impacted the crucial emergency response.   Operational Focus and Guiding Principles: In times of crisis, WRO specializes in working with host communities in rural regions, returnees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Our operations guarantee a moral and effective approach to crisis response by closely adhering to international humanitarian standards and values. Our actions are carefully planned to reduce suffering and increase community resilience.

Key Initiatives:

  1. Emergency response
  • Responsive deployment: Swift and targeted deployment of resources and assistance during emergencies, particularly focusing on rural areas affected by crises.
  • Holistic Solutions: Our commitment extends beyond immediate relief to prioritize interventions contributing to long-term community resilience and recovery.
  1. Collaboration with Affected Communities
  • Inclusive Engagement: Collaborating with internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities to understand and address their specific needs.
  • Culturally Sensitive Approaches: Tailoring programs to respect and integrate local cultural norms, ensuring effective and respectful collaboration.

Impact Assessment (2018-2023)

Our response to the humanitarian emergency response effort between 2018 and 2023 has had a significant positive influence on the lives of more than 200,000 people. This affects returnees, host communities, and internally displaced people (IDPs) in addition to being immediate. Our programmes are all-inclusive, addressing both the short-term demands for relief and the long-term recovery through the use of sustainable services.

Forward-Looking Vision:

Looking ahead, WRO remains steadfast in its commitment to evolving with the dynamic landscape of humanitarian needs. Our vision involves continuous refinement and adaptation of strategies to address emerging challenges. We aspire to maintain leadership in humanitarian efforts, providing timely and effective support to communities affected by crises. WRO is dedicated to contributing significantly to the broader goal of building a more resilient, compassionate, and sustainable in Somaliland and the Horn of Africa region.
